Our Parish

St. Peter and St. Michael is a Roman Catholic church, part of the Warrington and Widnes deanery and the Liverpool Archdiocese. We are a small parish, but with a great history and we have been alive in Woolston since 1835, although there was a lot of movement in the local community for 100 years prior to this date.

Up until late 2022, we were truly blessed to have Fr. John Gildea as our parish priest for 20+ years and he was ably supported by our Deacon Jim McGraw. Father Gildea had few health mishaps over the last few years of his life but steadfastly refused to allow the results of his strokes take over his life and he supported us and the parish right up until his death. It was Fr Gildea who thought about how the parish would continue to flourish after his death and created the parish council which allowed him, although still a member of the council, to take a back seat with regard to the running of the parish.

We are now fortunate to have Fr. Mark Drew as our new parish priest with effect from 28th April 2023. Fr. Mark, along with a couple of others had been supporting us with our masses since Fr. Gildea passed and we are truly grateful to have him on board as our newest permanent resident at St. Peter and Michael's on Weir Lane.

We are also fortunate to have great people and physical assets. We have a beautiful church, adorned with a number of wonderful mosaics, none more so than the 14 depicting the Stations of the Cross. Photographs of the church, the mosaics and its treasures can be found on the gallery page of the website along with memories from other significant events from our parish life.
