Our Songs

During this time of uncertainty and isolation we have gathered some songs, some you may recognise and some you may just need to take a chance on, that help us pray and relax.

Songs can mean so much to us and some of these have been chosen by members of parish and below is their reason for choosing their song. You can listen to the full playlist or read the meanings behind the songs below.

If you would like to recommend a song please let us know via the Parish email or use the form below to let us all know! You can either send us a link to the song or we will find one for you.

Especially for May

One of the best hymns celebrating May and the month of Our Lady. Beautifully sung by Frank Patterson. Thanks to another Frank (Hawley) for the link for us all to enjoy a favourite for this time of year.

This I Believe (The Creed) - Hillsong Worship

Katy

This is my go-to relax and pray song. It reminds me that I am not alone. It is a powerful, slightly repetitive song, but I hear it as though it is the voices of other Christians with me. Sometimes, especially with faith, I need to be grounded and this song does that for me. During my time at University I didn't really find the Church there easy to engage with, and so it was often music and scripture that helped me to pray, think about and question my faith on a regular basis. This song is one of the more relaxing and regularly used pieces of music and I hope that you enjoy it and find it as useful as I do.

Somewhere over the Rainbow - Eva Cassidy

Val

On the Thursday evening before VE Day 75th Anniversary, just after clapping for all our carers, my daughter, a key worker, arrived with shopping for us. As she got out of her car, she photographed a rainbow over our house, with the red, white and blue flags and nautical signalling flags flapping in the wind. My father was in the Royal Navy in WW2.

"Somewhere over the Rainbow" sung by Judy Garland in "The Wizard of Oz" was a favourite song of his. Rainbows and this song give me a feeling of my father's presences and great hope.

I can only imagine - MercyMe

Kathy

I first heard "I can only imagine - lyrical version" by MercyMe as a backing track to a video of a Father and his disabled Son completing a race together and I wept with joy as they reached the finish line together. This song makes me so proud to be a Christian follower of Christ and makes me think that whatever challenges there are in life our Lord is always with us by our side. When my Mum died my Husband made a DVD of her life from birth to death and he chose this song to close with ending with a picture of her beautiful grave and her picture as a baby with my Nana and Grandad, each time I watch it I feel blessed that she is happy and at peace with not only her Mum and Dad but with Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Apostles Creed-

Steve

This song was used by Steve during his Prayer Group session. Where we thought more deeply about our faith and what it means to us.

Take These Ashes - Lauren Glynn

Katy

Lauren record this for our Ash Wednesday Service 2021.

Bridge Over Troubled Waters - Simon and Garfunkel

Selena

My husband is my bridge over troubled waters. I associate this song with my God as him always being our bridge over troubled waters in our lives. I believe that the Lord will always be there to help us at times of trouble, especially in the current situation we all find ourselves. I hope you enjoy this song as much as I do.

Be Still for the Presence of The Lord

Margaret

I love the hymn ‘Be still for the presence of the Lord’ it sums up, for me, the whole idea of placing ourselves in God’s keeping.

Raise a Hallelujah - Bethel Music

 Just because...

Lord of the Dance

When the Good times come again - Barry Manilow

Pauline

Those who know me well will be very familiar with my love and appreciation of Barry Manilow and his music! 'When the Good Times come Again' is especially poignant and meaningful at this time and a reminder that good times will come again.

The Prayer - Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli (Cover by Rhema)

Lauren, John and Carole

This song was used by Lauren, Carole and John during their Prayer Group session. Helping us to think about how we pray.

God of Angel Armies- Chris Tomlin

Katy

As I Kneel Before You (Ave Maria) - Lauren Glynn

Katy

Lauren record this for The Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes 2021.

Scarred and Scared - Rod Stewart

Jim

This song is about regrets and forgiveness and makes me remember that despite making some very bad decisions and getting myself into bad and very difficult situations over my life, I always know that if I'm truly repentant, there will always be forgiveness there for me.

You Raise Me Up - Westlife

Joanne

This song is special to me as it helps me in times of need. I listened to it a lot when my dad passed away and every time I listen to it now it helps remind me that he is still with me, helping me when I need him the most.

Who You Say I am - Hillsong Worship

A song about freedom, being free from all that binds you in your everyday life. It is about letting go and remembering what is important. We are all unique and important, not just to others and God, but also ourselves.

On Eagles Wings - John Michael Talbot

Alain

It is the song that lifts up my spirits during this long spell of confinement and unceasing news of lives lost. It is a dazzling message that our God, our Church and our familiar faces are nearby; our refuge!

Deer's Cry - Lisa Kelly

Sandra

10,000 Reasons - Matt Redman

Hail Queen of Heaven. One of my favourite hymns to our Blessed Lady. Together with her son Jesus, they see me through the best and worse of times.
