An Open letter on behalf of the Ss Peter and Michael Parish Council on the death of Fr. John Gildea
On behalf of Margaret Harrison and myself, as Chair and Vice Chair of Ss Peter and Michael’s Parish Council (SSPAM), along with all other members of the team, we would like to express our deepest sadness at the recent death of our loyal Priest and trusted friend Father John Gildea. Father Gildea was leader and head of our Parish for such a long time (since 1998), that we all began to think that he would live on forever. Even after all the illnesses and setbacks he has had to overcome in recent years, his great strength and faith enabled him to carry on with his ministry with all the vigour of a man many years younger than he was.
It was only in the latter part of his time here at Ss Peter and Michael's, he made it clear that he thought, with a strong body of people in place if anything ever did happen to him, then his beloved Parish could continue to function and therefore the church stay open. He was indeed very shrewd, and so it was that SSPAM was formed and over the years we have been the delegates that have come together, along with Jim our loyal Deacon, to support him and plan for this unfortunate time when Father Gildea was taken from us, back to God our father in heaven, where we know he will be welcomed with open arms.
We would like to reassure people that we have been informed by Canon Dave Heywood, Dean of Warrington and Widnes that, with the help of the Deanery, Ss Peter and Michael's, (for many of us our second home), with SSPAM in place and even more people hopefully joining us, and with Father Gildea forever watching over us, we hope to be here for many years to come.
It is at this sad time that we all need to be here for each other. We are all one big family at Ss Peter and Michael's, and we will all unite in our grief for Father Gildea. We should also remember in our thoughts and prayers his sister Janet, his brother Christopher, and his dearest of friends Louise, and indeed pray for all his family and friends at this sad time.
May God bless us all and comfort us all in our grief, and may Father John Rest in Peace.
